Helpline

main_helpline

The helpline is open from 10am to 4pm weekdays. Call 0300 123 0789 or email help@painconcern.org.uk.

Our helpline is staffed by trained volunteers who provide information, support or just a listening ear to people wanting to talk about their own pain or that of a family member or friend.

  • What kind of help can we give?

The helpline can help you by providing:
    1. Accessible and independent information about pain, or that of a family member or friend.
    2. Help with developing or improving self-management skills.
    3. Information about specific Pain Concern leaflets and podcasts which may be relevant to you.
    4. Support and information to help you to make choices about how your own pain management needs may be met.
    5. Information about other contacts.

    The helpline cannot:
    1. Replace the advice of health professionals, or attempt to diagnose or offer any specific medical advice.
    2. Offer any legal opinion or advice.
    3. Provide personal opinions, although volunteers may speak from personal experience if asked to by you the caller.
    4. Become personally involved with any caller.
  • Confidentiality

The Pain Concern helpline is committed to ensuring the confidentiality of all callers is respected. Callers need not identify themselves in order to receive support or information from Pain Concern. However, if callers are willing, minimal information may be sought to provide operational statistics for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Individual volunteers will not divulge any information relating to callers outside the structure of Pain Concern, and any support or supervision of volunteers in relation to particular calls will be provided internally. No information obtained from callers will be identifiable with individuals.

Exceptions to this confidentiality policy will be made only in the following circumstances:
    i) The caller expresses any suicidal intent or desire to self-harm
    ii) Any child protection issues
iii) Issues relating to Prevention of Terrorism Act
In the unlikely event of a Pain Concern volunteer believing that confidentiality needs to be breached, permission will be sought from the caller before involving any third party.
