You can help Pain Concern by donating your time and your skills. Learn more about the various ways you can volunteer for Pain Concern.

Volunteering with Pain Concern

Pain Concern would not exist without our highly-valued team of volunteers. They provide information and support to people living with pain through our helpline; they keep our office running smoothly; they allow us to communicate with the pain community by producing and disseminating information; and they help establish our policies and run our campaigns.

Join our team of volunteers and help us to make a real difference to the many people in the UK living with pain.

We welcome volunteers at Pain Concern from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of skills and experiences. We have a strong commitment to equal opportunities. If you can spare anything from a couple of hours a week, please contact us at hr@painconcern.org.uk.

We offer

  • Induction, training and experience
  • An equal opportunities environment
  • References to employers on behalf of volunteers
  • Travel expenses

You gain

  • Experience to help build your career
  • The opportunity to develop skills (working in a team, communication skills, time keeping, etc.)
  • Experience of how a dynamic and complex non-profit organisation functions
  • The satisfaction of doing something worthwhile and meeting new people

Apply for

Broadcasting

Planning a career in broadcasting and want to boost your CV? This is an invaluable opportunity as you will be mentored by an award-winning BBC producer while working on our internet radio show, Airing Pain.

Editorial

Do you enjoy the satisfaction of getting those words just right? You could be a member of our editorial team taking publications through the production cycle. Tasks are broken up and delegated according to availability and experience.

Publicity and marketing

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in business or non-profit communications or to build on existing experience. From the start, you will have the chance to help shape the charity’s marketing strategy. You would be mentored by a highly respected marketing consultant or an enthusiastic production team leader.

Policy

Working on our policy team is a great opportunity to get experience of policy research. Setting out our own policies and responding to the fast-changing situation in national healthcare policy is right at the heart of what we do at Pain Concern.

Helpline

Can you offer support and an understanding ear to people living with pain? Want to volunteer from home? If so, we would like to hear from you. We offer full training and support to members of our team of helpline volunteers.

Fundraising

Fundraisers raise awareness of our organisation and help bring in the donations and grants which make the vital work of Pain Concern possible. If you enjoy communicating with people and getting involved with staging events this is the position for you.

Human Resources

Are you a people person who can get the best out of others? You could join our HR team to help interview and provide inductions for our new volunteers and to help organise our team of volunteers.

Administration

This is a great chance to boost your CV if you are seeking for an admin job. The work is very varied and can be adapted if a volunteer has a particular interest. Tasks could include answering calls, maintaining our databases, taking notes in meetings and using Sage software.

Accounts and Finance

Do you have a good head for figures and attention to detail? Our accounts and finance volunteers help to manage our day-today accounts and book-keeping, while also helping to maintain and update our principles, practices and procedures.
