Pain Matters 92
In this issue we look at the big picture. Our guest editors Pain Association Scotland have delivered self-management courses for decades. Here their Lead Coach, Phil Sizer, draws on his extensive experience to explain why pain is rarely the only problem, sharing a variety of stories from the frontline.
Their Chair, Professor Margaret M. Dunham, introduces the often-overlooked topic of chronic pain in older people, outlining the ageism pervading our society and consequently our healthcare. We hear from Professor Patricia Schofield, Doctor Isabel Nyangu and Doctor Carrie Stewart about prevention-focused interventions, impacts on informal caregivers and digital innovations in dementia care.
We close with a powerful lived-experience article on the ‘Matisse, 1941–1954’ exhibition currently showing in Paris, exploring what the artist’s late work can teach us about pain, adaptation and a ‘second life’.
